01 SI units, prefixes, orders of magnitude
drag each chip onto its slot (or tap a chip, then tap a slot). wrong ones bounce back.
order of magnitude slider
nearest power of 10. the cut-off is √10 ≈ 3.16, NOT 5.

02 random vs systematic, precise vs accurate
the target sim
bullseye = true value. play with the two kinds of error and see what happens to the shots.
"Measurements are accurate if the systematic error is small. They are precise and reliable if the random error is small." random errors → reduce by repeating readings. systematic (zero error) → offset by subtracting the value of the zero error.
03 reading instruments + repeated readings
read the ruler
"The reading error is half the smallest division on the measuring instrument." "Measuring length means measuring the left AND right position of the object. Thus both uncertainties in length are added." → ±0.05 + 0.05 = ±0.1 cm
stopwatch lab (like Q7 + slide 14)
hit drop to time a ball falling — your "reaction time" makes each reading scatter. then work out mean ± ½(max−min) — "the uncertainty is half the range of the readings". (slide 14 also says it is good practice to add the reading error.)
04 propagating uncertainties
worked-problem stepper
uncertainty machine
pick the operation, slide the inputs, watch which rule kicks in. (also good for checking homework…)
05 uncertainty in gradient & intercept
steepest / shallowest line fitter
1.2 questions Q10 (extended): s on the y-axis, t² on the x-axis. "The maximum/minimum gradient line should pass through the error rectangle for each point on the graph, at steep/shallow an angle as possible." boxes go green when both lines hit them.
Δt = ½(max − min) + reading error 0.001 s. Δt² = 2(Δt/t) × t². (the 0.450 and 0.500 m rows on the sheet look swapped, t gets smaller when s gets bigger, so i swapped them back. ask mr jalal)
06 vectors & scalars
tip-to-tail playground
drag the red and blue arrow heads. the resultant (pencil) = tip-to-tail. perpendicular case → R = √(a²+b²), θ = tan⁻¹(opp/adj).
R = θ = °
07 kinematics equations 1, 2, 3
missing-letter trick
read the question, tap the letters it gives you (+ the one it asks for). the one left over tells you the equation.
worked-problem stepper
throw-it-up sim
"If up is positive, then down is negative." even when it's flying straight up it is still in free fall: a = −g = −9.8 m/s² (v = 0 at the top, a isn't!).
08 motion graphs
drive the car, draw the graphs
set v₀ and a, press go. the x-t and v-t graphs draw themselves live. gradient of x-t = velocity, gradient of v-t = acceleration, area under v-t = change in displacement.
graphical analysis (kinematics worksheet graphs)
pick a graph from the worksheet, drag the time marker. shaded area = displacement so far, gradient = acceleration.
09 boss round — real teams questions
all from the kinematics worksheet + uncertainty worksheets, shuffled. ±2% tolerance. 3 in a row = streak bonus.
